does copper staining leave a dirt like appearance? I also had high calcium hardness in pool for quite some time but finally drained half of pool and im back in range (320). Does high calcium end up staining pool?

Hi herrera,
Yes copper staining can leave a dirt like appearance, but the most important thing to do is test the stain to determine what type of stain it is. We recently did a Video on How to Identify and Remove a Pool Stain which I think you will find helpful.
Stains are typically broken down into organic stains or metal stains. You can first take a chlorine tablet to the stain and if it lightens up then you have an organic stain, if it does not lighten up then you have a metal stain and you will need to Use the Jack's Magic Stain ID Kit to determine which type of metal stain you have. Once you determine the type of stain then let us know
Once you determine the type of stain you have then let us know and we can prescribe the proper treatment plan.

Hi herrera,
First you need to indentify what type of stain it is through testing the stain, have you done this yet? If so what type of stain is it? If not then you will need to start with rubbing a chlorine tablet on the stain and if it lightens up you have an organic stain if it does not then you have a metal stain and you need to determine which type of metal stain you have through the Jack's Magic Stain ID Kit once the stain type is identified then we can let you know what to use to remove the stain.

Hi herrera,
Yes, it is fine to keep the pool covered all the time but you still want to maintain your water chemistry at the appropriate levels. Were you ever able to make any headway on your stain?

I used jack stain kit and as soon as i put solution #2 the copper & scale stuff on it it came right up..so is the product i need actually called Copper & scale stuff?

and also i just had my water tested by pool store and both my iron and copper were 0....is that normal to have copper staining and the reading be 0??

Hello Herrera - Jack's Magic Copper and Scale Stuff is what you will need. You will need one pound for every 1,000 gallons. This chemical is available in a 5 Pound or 10 Pound bucket. It's possible to get a 0 copper reading if the stain is old or some kind of metal control has been used. Thank you for shopping with INYOpools.com.

Hello Herrera - The full list of instructions is listed below. The only other Jack's Magic chemical you'll need is the Blue Stuff or Purple Stuff (for Salt Water). You'll need 32oz per 10,000 gallons. The chemistry will have to be adjusted during the treatment. The Copper & Scale Stuff is safe to use in a concrete pool.

i've noticed white flakes floating around in my salt pool..any idea why that is happening?

These white flakes sound like like calcium flakes from the salt water chlorinator. This is caused from the water being slightly out of balance. Once the stain is gone balance the water and this should go away. It's nothing to worry about.

i just ordered jacks magic copper and scale stuff from your website. I would like to know what to expect from it. Will the water get cloudy? Will it be hard to get the chemistry balance back to normal range? Pump stays on for 24 hours, after the 24 hours is it back to normal pump operation? And i have noticed white flakes in pool (calcium flakes??) is that a concern? (My pool is a salt pool)

Was wondering what to expect when treating with magic Jack's copper and scale stuff..Will the pool get cloudy? Will it be hard to get the water balanced back to normal range? Pump stays on for 24 hours and then is it normal operation after the 24 hours? And do I put magic Jack's copper and scale stuff around the entire pool plus try and throw some toward the center of pool?

The pool may get a little cloudy. Once the treatment is done you can use some water clarifier to clear it up. It is not hard to adjust the chemical levels after words. Just test the water and adjust accordingly. You'll probably need some alkalinity or pH up.
Once you add the chemicals, you run the pump 24/7 until the stains are gone. Then you can go back to the normal run time.
You can spread the product around the pool and toss some out in the middle.

Getting ready to do the jacks magic copper and scale treatment on pool, want to make sure that i should keep my salt chlorine generator ON through out the treatment? Will be starting process in the evening and water temperture will be above 65 degrees.
