Winterization & Cover Question

A couple of winterization questions....   (for in-ground, liner pool located in Ohio)

1) When the cover is in place there is naturally going to be standing water on top.  Should you try and constantly keep the water off with the cover pump (when temperature allows) or only worry about it when it gets excessive?

2) I have a pool cleaner/vacuum (Dolphin).  During the winter months should I periodically (when temperature allows) pull back a corner of the cover and let the thing run for a couple hours?   Theory being that it could clean up any stray leaves ,etc that may have slipped into the water during the months that the water is not circulating.

Hello Floater74- The pool cover is designed to have some sag to it when standing water accumulates on the top. You would need to periodically remove the water with the cover pump to allow the cover to maintain its integrity. There is absolutely nothing wrong with pulling the cover back and allowing the pool cleaner to run a cycle from time to time. Leaves and debris left sitting on the bottom of the pool can cause staining. The vacuuming will definitely help with stain prevention.

Thanks!  I will look to give the pool a little love during the winter months.
