I recently purchased a pool filter cartridge. It sems to be a tighter fit than before even though the dimensions are the same. Inside the pool filter is a plastic tube and a funnel. What are these for and is it necessary to have them? I am having a hard time putting it back together after cleaning, HELP!

I called yesterday and was told that funnel is only there to support position of filter to ease the process of putting the cover back on. Plastic tube is an air line
