Can winter covers sink due to weight or is there defintely a hole/rip somewhere?

Hello,

I am new to pool ownership and have a question for you all...

This year, I noticed that my pool cover sunk into the pool below the water line. I made a mistake this year by not being diligent about pumping water off the cover after rain and snow, so I know I've put myself in this unfortunate situation. As far as I can tell, there are no visible rips, tears, or holes in the cover. There very well could be, which would explain the cover sinking into the pool, but I guess my question is...is it possible for the cover to sink in without it having any rips, tears, or holes? Is it possible that the weight of the accumulated rain/snow on top of the cover pushed it down into the pool? Since the cover is solid and not mesh, I didn't think water could permeate through, but after doing some research online, I'm seeing people talk about how enough weight can in fact cause some permeation. Anyhoo, because of this predicament, I've had to drain a whole ton of water out of my pool, which is going to cost me probably $500-700 to refill...sigh.

Any information/knowledge/experience regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated...thanks

Yes if you have a solid cover without a drain panel then the accumulation of water can have the cover sink into the pool. If you get a new cover then I would suggest one of these Cover Pumps or a cover with a drain panel. Please note that the drain panel does allow water into the pool so you could still have dirty water in spring start up. For this reason, I like a true solid cover with no drain panel then use the cover pump to pump water off of the cover.
