I am building a homemade pool using a 10 foot diameter plastic cattle trough. I have purchased a Hayward SP1750 Power Flo pump and a 166T sand filter. I don't want to drill holes in the trough for fear of creating potential leaks. Instead, I want to run return and outgoing water hoses over the top of the pool to recirculate the water. Can a accomplish without installing a skimmer?

Hello mattwilliams,

The purpose of the skimmer is to remove, or skim, debris off of the surface of the pool. Using the thought process of not drilling holes, you would want to think of this body of water as more of a pond. You will need to make sure you have adequate circulation, you sweep the pool frequently, and that you vacuum debris from your pool often. This would not be the most ideal way to circulate water through a pool but it can be done.
