I recently move to a fairly warm climate - Athens GA. Even though I may not be swimming in January, do I have to "Winterize" my pool?

Do I need to winterize, if so why?

When Do I "winterize" (what climate conditions?)

When do I "open" the pool (climate conditions)

How do I winterize?

If I add a heater, how much will that extend the swimming season?

Hello YosemiteSam - Since you are in a warmer climate, it is up to you if you want to winterize the pool. You could leave it open. If there is a freeze coming you can keep the pump running. That way the water in the lines do not freeze and rupture the plumbing.

Do you have an inground or above ground pool?

In-Ground, about 25,000 gals

Is there a table somewhere which indicates hour many hours per day to run the main filter pump vs. outside temperatures?

The answer to when you open and close the pool is a personal choice. Most people close it up when they are done swimming for the year and then open it back up as soon as the weather is nice again.

We have a great guide titled "How to Winterize your In-Ground Pool". This guide will walk you through the process step-by-step.

Solar panels or a heat pump would extend the season a couple months. A gas heater, in some cases, has the ability to heat the pool year-round.

We do not have such a table for run times vs temperatures. The goal, not matter what the temperature, is to turn the water over once a day. We have an article that explains how long you should run the pool pump.
