'Some areas of the country have a low water table and if you drain the water from your pool, it could literally pop the pool out of the ground... not a pretty sight! ' -p. 6 of 'Pool Care' pdf.

My pool tech tells me that this could happen with a high water table, does anyone have definitive information?

thank  you.

Hi Porter,

Here is a really good article on Keeping a Pool from Popping out of the Ground. Some of the key points are...

  • This is an extremely rare event
  • Don't drain the pool if you have had heavy rains
  • Pools at Sea Level or Lake Level are higher risk
  • Drain the water away from pool (i.e. to storm drain)
  • Install a Hydrostatic relief valve in your main drain
  • Work Fast (don't leave the pool drained for many days)

Thank You

Thank you, Patrick, for your reply.  It seems like the cause is a high water table.  Possibly the pool care pdf should be amended.
