I had asked last week about our above ground pool and drains, We do have a main drain on the skimmer side of the pool, I'm hestiate to ask the county as I don't want them to ask me to DC the pool, it seems that inground pools are required to have TWO drains, does that apply to above ground pools and what has your experience been AND what are the setbacks??? the pool is already installed so I'm concerned about getting these questions answered before I go to the county..thanx mike

Hello Mike,
The advantage to having two main drains is you would get better circulation of the water, but this is more common in larger inground pools. I am unaware of the requirements in your area for above ground pools. Generally speaking, though, most above ground pools do not have more than one main drain.

Mike,
I know for inground pools the dual drains is for safety purposes, normally two drains are required to prevent entrapment. If you have one drain the suction is more powerful on one drain, where if you have two drains the suction is split over two drains meaning neither has a really powerful suction which could entrap someone. So from a safety stand-point two drains is best.
Thank You
