Hi INYO Team,

I'm in the process of ordering pool equipment from you and have a scenario that I would like your input on. I have a 15x24 AGP that's half in the ground. I would like to locate a DE filter system and 85,000 btu raypack heat pump in a remote location about 40 feet away, can I do this? If so is a 1hp filter setup adequate? Or should I go with 1&1/2? Also, my backyard slopes so if the top of the filter system is above the water line should I use an IGP pump filter system?

Thanks in advance, you guys make 1st time pool diyer's look like they know what they're doing

Hello Frankie - We will need to know the feet of head in order to know what HP to recommend. We have a great article titled "How Do I Calculate Feet of Head for my Pool". Use that information to calculate feet of head and let us know what you come up with.

I would definitely go with an I/G pool pump since your yard slopes up to where the equipment will be located.

Hi Rob,

Being conservative I'm getting a 90 value for the feet of head. I got this by guesstimating some of the head values for the fittings, for my pool I'm looking to turn the water over every 8 hours, so I only need about 20 GPM. I'm  thinking of using about 200ft of 1.5 inch pipe, 6-45's, 4-90's, 1-check valve, 3-gate valves, 12-couplings, 1-tee, the heater and a DE filter. The elevation from the skimmer to the top of the filter is about 7 feet.

Based on that information, we would recommend a 1HP full rated pump. Something like the Hayward Super II model SP3010EEAZ would meet your demands.

One follow up question, would the Hayward 1HP Super Pump SP2607X10 be considered a full rated pump?

InyoRob posted this 10 February 2017

No, the SP2607X10 is an uprated pump. The flow rate would be lower than the full rated model.

Gotcha, thanks again!!!!
