Waterfall Rock Trap

Is the CMP 25577-950-000 Rock Trap Sheer Descent Necessary if the water is filtering through the main Filter. Problem I'm having is how to install it on a bottom port feed. Thanks in advance

This makes more sense now.
I got a response from the manufacturer CMP.

It's recommended by the manufacturer but not required. You should be ok as long as the pump basket is always in place and you never bypass the filter.
