I have inground pool which was built in 1993. I need to add about 1/2" of water every day. Pump runs 8 hours per day. We got the liner replaced last year. When pool was opened in the spring, water level was about the same when it was closed so I suspect the water leak is not at the light or bottom drain.
How can I locate the the leak if it is in the underground piping or where else can I check to fix the leak?
Thank you for contacting Inyo. If you have ruled out evaporation as the cause, the next step will be to locate the leak. Common leak areas would be the light, skimmer, main drain, and return jets. You can use the red pH liquid from a test kit to find leaks near those locations. With the pump off, squeeze a few drops near those spots and see if the red liquid is drawn in. If it is, replace any gaskets that may be used there or use underwater epoxy.
If the leak is in the piping underground, you'll need to contact a leak specialist. They can use sonar equipment to find the leak.
