Our existing single speed 1 HP pump burned out and we are looking to replace it with a variable speed. Here are the specs:

28,000 gal
1.5" piping
~50' of head
DE filter (60sf)
Kreepy Krawley suction cleaner
-No Spas, water features, etc.

I have been looking at Pentair and Hayward. I assume that I don't need a pump over 1.5 HP as I am limited by the 1.5" pipe's flow rate? Others have suggested the Pentair Inteliflo, but that is a 3HP unit. Also looked at the Pentair Superflo 1.5HP and the Hayward Tristar, Maxflo VS, and Super Pump VS. Any help much appreciated!

One other question is control on/off. Right now our existing pump is on a third party 230v wifi controller that controls on/off. Any of these pumps compatible with that or will everything now be controlled at the pump unit keypad. I don't want to get into an expensive pool wifi control unit, or pool automation system.

Hello MOConnell - We'd be glad to assist you. We would recommend the PureLine Prime model PL2605. The PL2605 is a 1.65Hp variable speed pump. This pump would be suitable for your size pool and 1.5" plumbing.

This pump does not have a built-in timer. It can be connected to your current controller. Your controller would turn the pump on and off. It would not have the ability to change the speeds. That would have to be done at the interface on the motor. You can program the speeds at the pump. Since it has bubble memory, the pump will save the programs when the pump shuts off.

Ended up going with the Intelliflo 3 HP, working well so far.
