So i'm a litle confused as to upgrading to a Variable Speed Motor/Pump.
I have an existing Single Speed Motor/Pump & live in California.
My Motor went bad ... am i supposed to upgrade the Motor AND Pump even though the Pump is good?
Can you just upgrade to a Variable Speed Motor with my existing Pump? ... or do i need a Single Speed Motor to replace the existing Motor since Pump is ok?

Hello Jonny - You can replace the motor and keep the existing pump. We can recommend the correct variable speed motor if you provide the make and model of your pump.
But do i replace Motor with another Single Speed, or a Variable Speed?

My Pump is a Pentair "Whisper Flo" WFE-4 , 1 HP, 1.65 SF
Current Motor is a Century/OA Smith 56Y, 1 HP, 1.65 SF ( square flange )
I believe the correct Variable Speed Motor would be your AO Smith #ECM16SQU , correct?
So nother' dumb question ... if you are mating a new Variable Speed Motor with an old Single Speed Pump, do you get the same savings on electrical usage? ... or are we just doing it because the CA Law wants me too?

Yes, model ECM16SQU would be the correct variable speed motor. You can save up to 80% on your electrical consumption by switching to the variable speed motor. You reap the most benefits when you run the pump longer on a lower speed.
We recommend replacing the seals when you replace the motor. The seal kit for the Whisperflo is GOKIT32. Use GOKIT32SALT if you have salt water.
