My pump is in ok condition but it stopped working, motor is dead.  Pump is old but functions, motor was replaced in 2017.  I would like to change to a variable speed.  What options are there based on what I currently have?  Would it be a good time to replace the wetted pump components as well (i.e. seal plate, diffuser, o rings, others)?  I have a salt water pool and automated via Pro-Logic.

The variable speed replacement motor would be model ECM27SQU

We would recommend replacing the seals when you replace the motor. The Whisperflo tune-up kit for saltwater pools is GOKIT32SALT. The other parts like the impeller, seal plate, and diffuser probably don't need to be replaced.

My pool is ~8,000-9,000 gal with a spa and separate dedicated pump for the waterfall.

The ECM27SQU would be suitable for that application.

Any feeddback will be much appreciated!  I was thinking the Vgreen 1.65 with a 073129 impeller like others have discussed on other threads.  I think the impeller for the WFE-28 is the same for a 2 hp and 1.5 hp uprated.  I’ll probably find a pool guy to do the install, but it would be good assurance to know what it would take to do myself (cost of equipment/materials).

Thanks for the quick feedback!  I think there is a delay in the webpage refresh, only now see your replies.  Why are your thoughts to downsizing to vgreen 165?

My only concern with downsizing to a 1.65HP would be the spa. The original 2HP pump was probably sized for the jets in the spa. Downsizing the pump would decrease the amount of force that the spa jets could produce.
