Pump Starts moving water fast, but then slows down to a halt

I just installed a brand new pump motor from Inyo.  Exact same model that was on before.  Replaced salt go kit during replacement.

I'm in the process of going from pond slime green to clear, and I'm about turquoise but milky (can't see the bottom).

When I start the pump it appears to flow well, but then 10-15min later it stops flowing, but the motor sounds like it is still going with just a minor difference in sound (I assume because water is not flowing).  Returns stop sucking.  I repeated this process 10-20 times. I have backwashed 4-5 times during this process, about 3 minutes of backwash, 1 minute rinse.

  • There is really no debris in the pump bucket or the skimmers, but I clear them anyway.
  • I do not see any water leaking around the pump or hear any air leaks.
  • I replaced the sand in my filter 1-1.5yrs ago.

Pool pump is below the pool. My pressure gague is broken so it starts on 30psi (with no pressure, even when I removed it) and goes up to 50, then 55.  So, I assume it is 20-25psi. I ordered a new one.

What do you think, or what else do you need to know?

It sounds like the filter is filling up quickly and that is slowing down the flow of water. You will have to continue to backwash several times a day until the water clears up.

I think you were right.  I started backwashing every time it stopped flowing.  After about 10 cycles, it now seems to be back to normal.  Thanks!
