With the kids not coming back home anymore and the wife with with some health problems, can I leave the pool closed for the summer.  i live on long island, new york.  if so, are there any concerns for the summer and the upcoming winter.

Hi Palmer,

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's health problems, I hope she is feeling better. If you don't open the pool then it will definitely get quite green by winter and definitely by next pool season. If you could put your pump on a timer and kick it on a few hours a day that would help out quite a bit and even better would be to add a gallon of chlorine each week and a splash of muriatic acid, this will help out quite a bit. If you don't open the pool you won't damage the pool but you will have a much harder time bringing it back to crystal clear. We did a Video on Bringing a Pool Back from a Swamp to Crystal Clear which you might find helpful.
