Our pool is two years old. At the start of this year our pool light didn't work. Should the light last longer than one year? We rarely used it even when it worked. Would the off-season after we close the pool have any negative effect on the light fixture or bulb?

So on average, a swimming pool light does last more than one year. If it has failed prematurely there are a number of reasons that can happen. Most commonly a power surge causing the bulb to go bad, or water entering the light fixture causing it to go bad. The offseason should not affect the light as long as the water has not gotten inside of it.

Thanks. As a follow up. What should my first move be? Remove light bulb and replace? Is it the same as replacing a regular like bulb?

Yes, we'd recommend taking the pool light fixture out and inspecting/replacing the bulb first. Here is our "How to Replace a Pool Light Bulb." guide that gives a general idea as to how that is done.
