Hello JackInTexas - We'd be glad to assist you. You will not be able to slide the motor back until you remove the large metal clamp. At that point, the motor and seal plate will separate from the front housing. Then you can remove the impeller and seal plate from the motor.

Check out steps 10-24 on our guide titled "How to Install a 2-speed Motor and a T106 Timer". It will show you exactly how to do this.

Okay ... is there a trick to getting this clamp off?  Pentair Waterfall Pump Band Clamp Assembly I think I have unthreaded it as far as it goes...

The knob should unscrew completely off of the clamp bolt. Once the knob is removed you can tap the end of the bolt with a rubber mallet. That should be enough to loosen up the clamp.

New problem ......  water leaking from squar flange to faceplate ....   Steps that got to this problem...

Got the old motor off fine once I got the clamp off that connects the two faceplates.... that was the easy part. got  the new o-ring installed on the diffuser..again the easy part.... installed new shaft seal ...99% sure I have it on the shaft the right way.  Old ceramic seal was epoxy'ed in by old homeowner...at least 4-5 years ago by the coloration of the epoxy and the worn ceramic top..... I didn't want to dig it out for fear of ruining the backing plate so I just installed the new spring section of the seal ...put everything back together, routed electric wires correctly and to right connectors.... primed the system for about 5 minutes with garden hose. Started it up.. purred like a kitten then I saw no pressure on the gauge and no water being drawn through. Air bubbles were coming out of the returns into the pool. H E L P!

If it's leaking between the seal plate and the flange of the motor, the cause is the shaft seal. I know it will be a pain but I would remove the old one from the seal plate.

The only other thing I could think of would be a crack in the seal plate near the shaft seal. Inspect that area for any cracks.

Thanks, Rob .... I was all set to disassemble again!   BTW .... I have an "exploded" diagram of the pump to face plate ... Is there supposed to be a flat washer/gasket that goes between the faceplates before the clamp is put on? THanks again for all your help.

InyoRob posted this 13 February 2017

There is a flat washer that slips over the motor shaft and sits behind the seal plate. This would be key 4 in the schematic below.

JackInTexas posted this 13 February 2017

That's the diagram I have ... I'm talking about key #7..... That I didn't see when I took the old motor off.  #4 is there ...it was on the new motor.

Thanks!

Number 7 is round o-ring and it should definitely be there. That would cause the pump to leak between the seal plate and front housing. The part number for the seal plate o-ring is 5056-06.
