I just installed a new pool motor that is running hot, very hot. Questions: can the impeller be installed to tight, or can the motor run hot due improperly installed seals? Thanks, tim

Hello Tim - It is normal for the motors to run hot to the touch. If it runs too hot, the thermal overload will shut the motor down.

However, the most common reason a motor runs too hot is the wrong sized impeller. This happens when people replace a full rated motor with an uprated motor (1hp full rated for 1hp uprated). This would mean the impeller is oversized and it would cause the motor to run hot. You can also check the voltage at the motor terminal. If it's too high, the motor will run hot.

The impeller just needs to be hand tightened. Also, the seals should not affect the temperature of the motor.
