Hi Customer Support,

Is the GRCJ1400-3  a direct replacement for the Jandy R0475400 3 port salt cell?

Thanks,

Charles

Hi Charles,

The GRCJ40-3 PLC1400 After Market Salt Cell is a direct replacement in the sense that it will fit in the same location and is the same size as the R0475400 and will work with the Jandy power supply. The ports are also in the same location, so everything is the same with the exception of the flow sensor. The GRCJ40-3 PLC1400 After Market Salt Cell uses a different style flow sensor which is located in the bottom port of the cell, this is an integrated flow sensor meaning there is not a separate wire that goes back to the power supply like the OEM. I hope this helps.

Thanks Patrick for your response.  The reason for my question is I ordered this part from your InyoPools.  Upon receiving,  I noticed that the union collars will not screw onto the GRCJ40-3. The R0475400 ends have a diameter of 3" while the GRCJ40-3 ends have a diameter of 3 1/4".  Also the original  flow / Salinity sensor has a tab on it while the GRCJ40-3 does not a slot in the bottom port to accept this tab.  I did read on another forum where you could just file that tab down to make it fit.  Do you have any comments on the union collars not fitting?

Thanks,

Charles

Hi Charles,

Could you post a few photos, to this post with a little caption next to each explaining the areas of note. Please show the areas from the original vs. GRCJ40-3. Also if you could post a link to the other forum, that would be helpful. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Below are instructions for posting an image.

Thank You

The two areas that are circled on the picture is where the unions fit.  On the R0475400, they are 3" but 3 1/4" on the GRCJ40.  The bottom port where the flow/salinity sensor fits is 3 1/4"  on the R0475400 which is the same on the GRCJ40.  I measure the ends of the original salt cell after removing it from the plumbingR0475400

Forgot to add the link regarding the filing of the sensor to make it fit.

"You have to use your old sensor. Also if you have the Jandy original sensor you will have to modify it slightly to make it fit. Sensor has a tab on it and this cell does not. You will have to file the tab down on the old sensor but otherwise it will fit fine."

Hi Charles,

It looks like the R0475400 is the 3-port replacement cell for the old 2 port Jandy cell. The proper after-market replacement for the R0475400 is the GRCJ40-2 2 Port Cell the GRCJ40 2 port cell has smaller unions than the GRCJ12-3 3 Port Cell The ports on the 2 port cell measure 3" where the ports on the 3 port cell measure 3-1/4". The only concern is your flow switch as it appears at some point you upgraded from the 2 port cell to the 3 port cell, the original 2 port cell had an in-line flow switch where the new 3 port cell has the flow switch in the bottom of the cell. The GRCJ40-2 2 Port Cell after market cell is designed to work with the older in-line flow switch, you don't happen to still have your old flow switch? Could you post 2 photos to this thread.... a wider shot showing your entire equipment set up as well as a close-up photo of your salt system power supply? Below is a picture of what the original flow switch would have looked like (circled in Green).

Charles,

Could you also let me know what size pipe is going into your cell, there should be digital writing on the white pipe that says 1.5" or 2"

Thanks

Patrick

Hello Patrick,

After looking at your diagram and comparing it to what I have, I think you are spot on.  The plumbing configuration was this way when I bought the house.  The orange arrow shows the old flow sensor switch still there.  The cable that connects it was cut although you cannot see that from the angle the picture was taken.  With that being said,  seems like I am limited on my options for replacing the cell? I have attached a picture for your review.

Charles,

Can you supply me the pipe size of the white pipe going in and out of the salt cell? There should be digital writing on the pipe that says 1.5" or 2.0". I don't think the 2 port cell will be an option since your flow sensor with the cut cord is discontinued. I'm thinking we can go with the larger Jandy AquaPure 3 Port Unions these are the larger unions that will screw onto the 3 Port After Market Cell you have purchased. The tailpiece, the black smooth piece of the union accepts 2" plumbing, so if you have 2" plumbing these unions should work. You will need to cut out your old tailpieces that are glued to the white pvc pipe so you may have some minor re-plumbing but it should be nothing major.

Patrick,

have you tested the jandy union nuts (r0452100) screws onto the grcj40-3 cell. I can't find any documentation that defines the inside diameter of the nut itself

thanks,

Charles

Hi Charles,

Yes we had a PLC1400 cell in our inventory which uses the R0452100 union nuts, we removed the nuts from the PLC1400 and screwed those onto the GRCJ40-3 without any issue.
