I just ordered a new valve assemble kit from you over a week ago. It has been on my old sand filter for over a week. My pool is still very green. Tried everything the local pool place has suggested. Wondering if my filter could be bad?? It's 17 years old. Is it possible to just get filter since I just got a new $135 valve or could it be something else?? Thank

Hi Amy,

Typically with a really green pool the algae will clog up your filter pretty quick. I would suggest the following vacuum the pool to waste, this means turning your backwash valve to waste and when you vac the algae will go straight out to your yard, this will allow you to remove a lot of your algae without the algae clogging up your filter. I would also continually backwash/clean your filter as you are probably getting a lot of algae collected in the filter and this causing the filter to have low flow. Once you get the pool cleared then you should have to backwash less. We put togeter a good Video on How to Clear a Green Pool which you should find helpful. Normally you would need a new filter, so I would suggest these steps first.
