If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it.  I have a Hayward sand filter and a Hayward pump. I have air in the basket next to the pump and cannot get rid of it.  The pump is brand new in the valve on top of the sand filter was bought last year.  I have replaced all the hoses.  The pump filters water and also will do recirculate but it will not do backwash.   I do not see any visible leaks in any of the hoses so I am thoroughly confused.

The backflow issue may be related to the new valve assembly on top of the filter. If possible I would remove and inspect for properly operation. If the pump is pumping water to the filter and will not backwash I suspect that the filter valve is not moving to the backwash position. Unless you have an air leak, trapped air in the basket should disappear as the pump builds up flow. I have a Hayward pump and need to be ertra carefull when putting the basket cover back. I always lub the seal which help me get the cover tight and leak free
