We have a pac-fab super flow filter with sand and pea gravel media. the filter is approximately 20 years old. does this media ever have to be replaced?

Hello BillHeinl - The media will need to be replaced eventually. Every pool and filter is different so the lifespan of the sand is different. It will be time to replace the sand when the pressure rises, the flow decreases and backwashing no longer improves the pressure or flow.
