Hello, I have replaced the sand in my Hayward filter and backwash pretty regularly and still after I vacuum, within a day I get fine debris collecting at the bottom of my pool.  I can't seem to cure the problem.  What are possible causes and corrections?  Thanks.  Mike

There are a handful of reasons why fine debris could bypass the filter. The debris could be too small for the sand to catch it. You could try using a water clarifier to help coagulate the debris. You could also try using a small amount of DE powder in the filter. You'd add a cup or so of DE powder to the skimmer and it would collect in the filter. The DE would then catch the smaller debris.

Some other causes of debris bypassing the filter could be a cracked lateral, cracked standpipe, or a bad spider gasket. Replacing those items, starting with the spider gasket, would be the next steps after clarifier and DE.

Thank you.  Hadn't heard or thought about the DE solution.  Will give it a try.  Mike
