Brown algae in above ground pool

Hi! I have a 22'x52" (10,400 gal) above ground pool that we didn't get closed properly/emptied at the end of last season. To add insult to injury, our cover fell in over the winter. Now I have around 3" of water with what looks like brown algae. It's mostly floating and not sticking to the liner besides where it's dry above the water line. I've purchased a new sand filter and salt water clorinator for the pool to open it this year. Would it be worth manually emptying (at this point 5 gal at a time with a wet/dry vac) the rest of the water? Or should I just refill it and treat the water once the pump is up and running with chemicals and a vacuum?

If refilling it is the way to go, how should I attempt to open it with the new clorinator and a dirty pool?

Thank for your help, I managed to pump out 99% of the water and clean the rest up before refilling this past weekend. I now have a crystal clear pool!

If most of the pool is clear besides the 3" of brown algae, I'd fill it up and treat the water with chemicals. I'd hold off on the salt system until the water is clear and balanced.

If the water is all murky, I'd drain and refill. You'll spend more time and money trying to clean up that kind of situation.

The algae is spread out all over the bottom of that 3" layer of water. Would this be a dump and refill in your opinion or a treat once full?

I would just dump it since it only seems to be a small amount of water.

That's great! Thank you for the update.
