I have a Sparco automatic water treatment system that was installed with my pool in 1995,   We haven't used it in years and now I am having difficulty finding inserts for it.  So, I thought it might be easier to purchase a new one that I can add my own tablets into.  I just am not sure what I need.  Can someone help me?

I've had a Rainbow automatic chlorinator for 34 years. I think they are owned by Pentair now. Hayward also makes a line of automatic chlorinators. They are pretty straight forward. I haven't used mine for primary chlorination in 5 or 6 years. I switched to liquid chlorine to sanitize the pool. But I still use it when I'm gonna be away for days.

My problem is what has to be done to replace my chlorinator?  I can no longer find inserts and want one that I can just add the tablets when I am away, but I am not sure how difficult it would be since I already have the piping.

Hi Poolmom,

You would need to cut out the old Sparco unit and replace with one of the new chlorinators. The Hayward Chlorinator and Rainbow Chlorinators JCM70 mentioned are great I also like this CMP Chlorinator.

I did look up the installation manual for the Sparco unit and it looks like the plumbing for the Hayward Chlorinator is the most similar so from ease of installation standpoint you may want to go with the Hayward Chlorinator Regardless you will need to do some plumbing work, nothing major but this will require cutting existing PVC pipe, gluing fittings, etc.. If you don't feel comfortable with this then you may want to call a local pool company or plumber to do the installation. I would suggest ordering the chlorinator from us to save some money and then just ask the pool company or plumber for a price on installation.

Thank You

Thank you so much!  If I order this, do I need anything else for installation?  What about the tool to remove the cap?  I saw a question regarding that?

I would suggest the Hayward Chlorinator Lid Removal Tool. You can also go with this Hayward Chlorinator Union Kit this kit allows for quick disconnect of the chlorinator without needing to cut any plumbing, although it is not required it does make removal for the chlorinator easy for servicing or winterizing.
