On Father's Day, we took our Border Collie, to my in-law's home. They have a saltwater pool, like we do. Our pup, after swimming, had crunchy feeling fur. It was rough to the touch. His skin, underneath was fine. No irritation. No scratching, either. The next morning, I washed him, 3 times, then conditioned his fur. All was well again. Then, we let him in our pool (we've lived here almost two years, so he swims A LOT!), and the same thing happened again. No skin irritation. Just crunchy, and it kind of sticks together--the top coat, only. This time, I washed him again, conditioned him, and all was well. Then, last night, we were swimming, and I could tell it was starting to happen again. Instead of product, I just hosed him down really well, and brushed him out as I did it. It took a while, but it stopped the issued from happening full on. Here's the kicker: We checked the chemicals. Salt is a little low (rain), hardness was low, phosphates were high. We took a sample to our local store. They want us to add conditioner to the water. The cyanuric acid was low. My question is, since this is all of a sudden, could the phospates cause this to happen to his fur? Has anyone ever had this issue? I've called the Vet, and they just want me to wash him. Please help. He's such a swimmer. Thank you, in advance.
