Air in line before heater

I think I have an air problem in the suction line just before my heater. After running a short time, the pvc line begins clunking and vibrating, you can grab the line and feel the air moving through to the heat exchanger. The temp on the heater will quickly go up 4 or 5 degrees and the heater will display a HS error code. The pressure guage on the filter stays constant around 15...the pump flow from the pool appears constant. Any thoughts on how air would be getting in the short line between the filter and heater? I've backflushed and rinsed sand filter numerous times.

Hi Tooner,

I would take a spray bottle and fill it with soapy water and then spray around all of the suction side fittings, these would be any fittings, unions or valves before the pump as well as the pump lid. If you have a suction leak then you should be able to see the bubbles being pulled into the area where the suction leak is located, you can also do this with smoke. If you can locate the suction leak then this will be the area you will need to fix. This would be the first approach I would try.

Thank You

Patrick
