40,000 gallon gunite pool that was completed November of 2018 it was fine through most of the summer of 2019 then developed this. It is reddish pink in color and a steel brush will not scrub it off ... seems to have hard white nodules under it in places

Pink can sometimes be algae but that would usually brush away. You could rub a chlorine tab on and see if lightens up. If it does, it's an organic stain and can be treated with chlorine.

More often it's a metal stain. You can rub a vitamin C tablet on it and see if it lightens up. If it does, you have a metal stain.

Do you fill your pool with well water?

 Rob thanks for the reply....

The pool is filled with city water .... I've tried the vitamin c test to no avail... I can get the red/pink color out of it for the most part but then I'm left with big white spots under where the red was that wont scrub off when it's gone ... any suggestions

40,000, wow that's a huge pool.

Have you tried a pumice stone? That may remove the white spots.
