Have 1HP motor on pump not variable speed. Want to change to variable speed pump. I run pump 8 hrs a day. How long will it take to recoup extra cost for new pump looking at around $500 for new pump

Most pool owners are going to save in the neighborhood of $250 - $500 annually. The total annual savings will really depend on if you keep your pool open all year and run the pump. It also depends on the speed setting of the VS motor. The lower you run the pump, the more you will save.

Which pump did you have in mind?

Variable-speed pumps get their name from the fact that they operate at different speeds, measured in rotations per minute (RPMs). They can be adjusted up to 3,450 RPMs to suit the specific function. VSPs use less energy when their speeds are reduced. ... This has serious energy-savings implications.
