I wanted to upgrade my existing pool pump motor from a single speed to a variable speed.  I did some research and I believe the ECM16CU is an option that will work.  When I chatted online, the rep said I may also need to replace the impeller.  Can you confirm the ECM16CU will work in my pump and what other accessories I'll need (such as the Super II tuneup kit?).

I also have a wifi/timer switch that turns the pump on and off, will this no longer be compatible with the new pump?

Existing setup

  • Pump: Hayward SP3000 (RS750CA?)
  • Motor: Emerson T55CXCMM-1407 (SP1607Z1BERCA) (.99 THP, .75 FRHP/1.32 SF)
  • Filter: Hayward C17502S

New setup

  • Motor: ECM16CU
  • Seals: GOKIT2
  • Impeller? SPX3020CKIT?

The ECM16CU motor would be the correct variable speed option and the GOKIT2 would be the correct kit. You don't have to change the impeller but if you want to maximize the output of the new motor, the correct impeller would be SPX3010C.

The timer could provide power to the pump but all of the timer functions would be handled by the control at the motor.
