ULTRA FLOW PUMP MOTOR AND SEAL PLATE SEPARATION

The motor bearings went bad in my ultra-flow pump and need to replace the motor. The pool was installed in 2000. I converted to salt water about 4 years ago and I suspect the seal went bad so will also need the PS-3865 salt water seal as well. I have everything apart and the 4 nuts and lockwashers removed, but I can't separate the motor from the seal plate. There was a lot of white deposits around the motor flange and seal plate and on the 4 studs. I have tried cleaning it off by scrubbing with soap and water, letting it sit in a water vinegar solution and finally a muratic solution trying to disolve the deposts. I have spayed wd-40 all around the rim and stud threads, but no luck. Any ideas?

I see that the almond colored seal plate (357143) is no available, but there is a black seal plate (5106-210) available. My seal plate has what looks like a metal cup that is attached with RTV sealant on the inside. I don't see this in the parts diagram but I think it is part of the Seal 1000 shaft seal. If I can separate the motor and seal plate should I also pry off and replace the metal cup? If I can't separate the seal plate from the motor, I will also get a new black seal plate.

Thanks

I believe I have the same type pump JS27670. Black seal plate pt#390049 and Impeller p#390052. My issue is the Impeller has 6 flow channels, above 2 of the 6 flow channels have separated slightly. Impellers are expensive I will continue to use this old one if you don’t think those separations will affect the flow. Can you help

Ugh... Yeah I think that is probably a wise idea the vast majority of people do not use RTV on the seal

Thanks for your help. I don't think I will use RTV on the cup. I'm starting to think someone used RTV between the motor and the seal plate! I never could get it apart.

You don't need to rtv the metal cup to the seal plate but it would not hurt if you want to do RTV it in, its not needed but some people like to do it.

Patrick,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had been using a small 2x4 with no luck. I had the motor housing off, after removing the 4 long motor screws, and was grasping on to the rotor shaft while banging down on the seal plate. I tried a large rubber mallet which definitely packed more punch. The whole rotor and bearings came out but still left the lower portion of the motor firmly attached to the seal plate:-o I went ahead and ordered a new motor, black seal plate and various parts to rebuild the pump. I ordered a new salt water shaft seal as well. Do I need to seal the metal cup to the seal plate with RTV like my old one?

Thanks

Hi Jimmyg,

Thanks for the photo's and email. You would want to take a rubber mallet and tap on the back side of the seal plate. For the metal cup this is part of the shaft seal and you will want to remove this with a flat head screw driver and then replace with the new shaft seal.

Thank You
