I just recently purchased a home with a large inground pool and spa. I do know that the previous heater for the pool was removed once it quit working. My question is, How do I know whether installing a new heater would just heat the spa or would I be heating the entire pool Thank you.

Hello Dillonhart - You can heat both bodies of water or one by itself. If you only want to heat the spa, you'll need to move a couple of your diverter valves.

  • Locate the valve that controls the suction from the pool and spa. You'll want to move the valve to a position where it shuts off the suction from the pool.
  • Locate the valve that controls the returns to the pool and spa. Move that valve to a position where it shuts off the pool returns
  • At this point warm water will only flow to and from the spa.
