The weir door is designed to prevent debris from floating out of the skimmer when the pump shuts off. The weir door is typically not the cause of air in the pump. However, if it was stuck in an upward position, it could prevent adequate water flow through the skimmer. It's possible that this could create a whirlpool effect in the skimmer and allow air into the pump.
