For the winter I leave my pump running to keep the water circulating so it doesnt freeze. I put the sand filter valve on "recirculate" and open the drain at the base of the filter so it doesnt freeze. However, this year the filter drain continued to release water for 45 minutes before I finally recapped it. The filter was purchased new this spring. What could be wrong?

Hello Retainer1 - The spider gasket in your filter valve may be pinched or bad. This would allow water into the filter instead of recirculating back to the pool. What is the make and model of the valve?
