i have a pre 2008 hayward salt generator panel. i recently bought a new cell (t-15). for those of you with this panel type know that you do not need to change the cell type on the panel (because there isnt functinality to do so). each morning my salt reading was at 500 ppm and by noon it crept up to 1900 and because it is under 2600 chlorine will not be produced because the panel does not htink there is enough salt in the pool. also the check salt and inspect cell lights were on. i had to recalibrate my panel (off-auto- wait for click-press diag 5x) to bring my salt reading up to the actual amount so it would generate. I must have read 100 blogs on this issue - almost all of them said it was either the cell (mine is brand new) or the panel (mine is 15 years old) so it was going to be an expensive fix either way. After hours of researching - and i was suprised by how many people have this issue - i found one person who had the same exact issue. Rather than purchase a new panel he replaced the flow switch even though the check flow light was not on. soooooo rather than spend $600 on a new panel i decided to start with the flow swtch. Worst case - it didnt work. Needless to say i bought one on amazon for $36 - it was here the next day - and it worked! try this before buying a new panel. the flow switches eventually go anyway so it is worth a try.
