My unground pool has a whitish gray ring around the pool at the waterline and neither muratic acid nor bleach will remove it. Any ideas on what causes it and how to get rid of it?

Hello SSimon - It sounds like some sort of scaling. It could be caused by a high level of calcium, salt or pH. It's odd that muriatic acid didn't work. I would recommend contacting your pool builder to see what else is safe to use on the pool.
We carry a product called Scale Free. This product will prevent the scale from coming back once it is removed.

I think you are referring o scaling as admin has pointed out. It usually happens by the detergent used to keep your pool clean from germs. Inyopools has a product which can be found in the product section named something like scale free. I have a big pool at my two offices and this is a basic thing which every pool owner every now and then runs into.
