Hi I'm new to the forum. I have zero free chlorine, zero cyanitric acid, some scrub resistant yellow algae, and black algae spots on the bottom. Plaster pool built in 2001. Leslie's told me to pump out a foot of water before adding conditioner and black algaecide. Would like to know what the purpose of draining the water is and if it's truly necessary. Thanks.

Thanks for the question and welcome to the forum! I have not heard of pump out water prior to treating the pool and I don't think it is necessary. We have a really good Video on How to Clean a Green Pool and I would suggest following that video step by step and you will have a crystal clear pool in no time.
