I have a 28000 Gal above ground pool with a deep end. Its a Oval 18x38x4 with a deep end to 7feet . Sta-rite cartrige filter and a 230v Sta-rite 1hp Dura Glass pump.

I am wanting to add solar panals and a gas heater for early start up in spring and extented season. So do I need to have a bigger pump or is mine just find. My pump needs a new motor so this would be the time to upgrade if need so.

Yes, more HP will likely be required if you are adding solar panels. My suggestion would be the Waterway Power Defender 270. It is a 2.7HP variable speed pump. It may seem like overkill but you won't have to use the highest speeds but it will definitely be able to handle the added solar panels.
