Hello all, so I think I out thought myself, I had a 1hp motor for inground pool, it finally went out and I thought I could go to a .75hp (3/4 hp) . My pool has a waterfall and bubbler on this pump only. The filter is 2hp..

So  I put in the smaller 3/4 motor, but it keeps shutting down with the thermal over loads inside pump, then after cooling, starts back, etc, etc. I thought at first it may be wiring, but it's a 220v hook up, and about 7amps..so no issues with wire size. I am thinking it's the length of the pipes and the 3/4 motor is just to small to push that much water and 90deg. Elbows etc.?

I've had the old 1 hp  motor running for 8yrs no issues. So I'm going back to 1 hp. And will report back asap.

Thnx for reading.

If you didn't downsize the impeller when you downsized the motor, that would have caused the motor to overheat. You could go back to the 1HP motor or go with a 3/4HP impeller and keep the 3/4HP motor.

Ohh ok got it, well to bad I didn't wait for answer, I returned the .75 pump, and ordered from you guys a 1hp pump. It came fast, install was a breeze, and I love the dual switch.110/220 makes life so easy. Pump is in and working error free, thanks all.
