Hi Pinelakes,

How does your pool look? Is it green? There are two things which consume chlorine, the first thing is sunlight and the CYA acts as protection for your chlorine for sunlight. The second thing that consumes chlorine is organic material like algae, leaves, sunscreen, pee, poop, dead animal, etc.. Do you have any organic material in your pool? You may also want to retest your CYA to make sure you got an accurate reading. I would remove any organic materials with a net like leaves and if you have algae in the pool you will need to continue to add chlorine until all of the algae is killed, you will know that the algae is killed off once you are able to hold a chlorine reading. Please keep us posted. If you have not seen our Video on How to Clean a Green Pool then it is worth a watch. Also if you could post any photos of your pool that would be helpful as well.

Thank You

Patrick

Thank you for your reply it helped me out. MY  pool is clear for the most part but just like you said there are spots here and there of green allergy and a few leaves in there so I'm going to try what you said.
