I recently ordered a Century 3/4 HP Square Flange 56Y Full Rate EE Motor - B2661 from inyoPools. I carefully followed the directions to install it. Turned on the breaker, turned on the pump and it hums but does not run. What is the likely problem? Initial internet searches say that it has a bad start capacitor, but it is a new pump. The supportive styrofoam packaging was in really rough shape, but the pump looked to be unblemished. Please advise me as to what my next course of action might be. Could the impeller be too tight?

Hi ChristopherH,
Could you post a photo showing how the motor is wired, showing the colors of your wires, the terminals the wires are connected to as well as the voltage switch on the motor. This will allow us to double-check that the motor is wired correctly. Are you wiring 230V or 115V?

I am wiring 115V. The pump is run off a single breaker. The wires to the pump include green, black, and white. The voltmeter at the switch read 120 V.

It is wired correctly. It could be a bad bad run capacitor. If you are still having an issue, submit a warranty request on the following page. https://secure.inyopools.com/Support/SupportRequest.aspx
