Liner track question

I recently had a pool company install a vinyl liner in my oval inground pool. They installed the liner into the lower track so the top track is exposed. He claims this is so we could install an auto cover if we want. I’ve never seen a pool with the top track exposed. Is this normal and is there any issue with them installing the liner into the lower track.

Can you provide a picture of the coping track on your pool?

There are some coping types that have two tracks, like Cinderella's CP5 coping. Both the top and bottom track can be used for the liner. Which one is used for a liner installation is usually down to the preference of the installer.
