Leak where return hose connects to return jet on exterior pool wall

We had a company come out & open our pool yesterday & I noticed a leak where the hose from the sand filter to the return jet is leaking (constant drip) where the hose connects to the exterior pool wall where the return jet is. Is this normal or do I need to add more sealant (glue, tape, etc.) to the connecting ends or what (pic attached)?

Also, does it matter which direction the return jet is facing (circulating water clockwise or counter clockwise)? When the pool was installed the water went counter clockwise (return jet was on the left of the skimmer & water went from the left) when they opened the pool this year, water now moves to the right (clockwise)...does this matter?

The leak the arrow points to appears to be at the threaded connection to the pool wall. There is likely a seal behind the nut to produce a water tight connection to the pool wall. Try tightening the nut a little, but go easy to not break the plastic nut. If the leak is between the hose and fitting just tighten the clamp (again don't over-do-it).

You dont want the water to short circuit directly to the skimmer so as much water as possible in the pool get filtered. Aim the jet so water has the longest path to  get to the skimmer.
