Hello,

I have been in the swimming pool industry for 15 years servicing & repairing residential & commercial pools. I currently work at Crawdaddy Pools in Scottsdale AZ where I recondition pool motors and equipment. INYO is my #1 go to for motor information & I've learned a lot just reading the responses. My question is, what is the difference between a jetted tub motor vs. a motor that is not a jetted tub motor? And while I'm here... say you have a 1hp full rated motor with a THP of 1.65, if I were to put a 1.5hp impeller on that motor will it run without burning up? As long as the THP is greater than the impeller being used it should be ok right? How fast do you think a 1hp up rated motor with a THP lower than 1.5 will burn up in that same situation? Thank you for all the good info, making me look good out here!

Hello Josh Rex - "Jetted Tub Motor" is just another term for spa or above ground pump motor. It's usually a Flex 48 thru-bolt style motor. In some cases, in will be a 56 frame thru-bolt style.

The impeller question is a little more complex. Whether or not the 1.5HP impeller used on the 1HP full rated motor will work depends on if the impeller is rated up or full. Do you have the part number of the impeller?

As long as the THP of the motor is equal to or higher than the impeller, you'll be ok.

An oversized impeller can burn up a motor within a couple days or it could take a month. We've seen a wide range of time when it comes to that.
