If you have a multiport valve, there should be a setting called waste. This setting allows the water from the pool to bypass the filter and exit the drain line. You'd set the valve on waste and then start the pump. You could then vacuum the debris right out of the pool.

Rob,

we just got the inground pool last summer

we are new at this

when you say vacuum to waste do you mean after the vacuuming then back wash?

Thank you

Alice

Hello Alice - It sounds like pollen or some dead algae. If you have a sand or DE filter, vacuum the debris to waste.
