American Products Ultra Flow Leaking

Pool pump leaking.

I have an American Products Ultra Flow pump with newer 1.5hp motor. Worked fine for one year after replacing motor. Leak began two weeks ago. Replaced bearing seal, leak reduced, but not stopped.

I again replaced the bearing seal being very sure to do so slow and carefully. Leak is now reduced to 1-drop every 3 seconds. I am very sure I made no mistakes in the second seal installation.

I notice the reverse thread bolt for the impeller, #6 on drawing, is no longer a replacement part. I notice there is no washer or o-ring under the bolt head. Could this be the source of the leak?

Suggestions?

Thanks.

We'd be glad to assist you. Is the pump leaking between the seal plate and the motor or seal plate and the housing (volute)?

The water appears to be leaking from the motor side of the seal plate. Definitely not from the volute o-ring.

We have been advised by the manufacturers of the pump and motors that the impeller lock screws are not necessary. So a missing impeller lock screw o-ring shouldn't cause the pump to leak. The shaft seal is the last defense between the seal plate and the motor.

Assuming the shaft seal was installed correctly, the only other issue we can think of is a small crack in the seal plate where the shaft seal is seated.

Thank you for the information, I was afraid you might reach that conclusion. Guess I'll close the pool for the season and deal with it next spring.

PS I love how Inyo Pools provides quick service on parts and especially the excellent training videos and this personal helpful service. That's why I buy from you. Thank you again.

Might be the coil .... for me I've never have any leaking issue with the 120 but on the small cleito I've run into bad batch of coil and had a leaking issue before.

The construction of the cleito is very simple and therefore there are not maybe point that could fail. That's what make me believe it's the coil as it's pretty much the only piece that could fail in term of leaking.

Also check the o ring just to be sure (replace them if u have) hope that helpful... cheers !
